San Isidro de El General, Costa Rica
In 1910, the village Quebrada de Los Hogs, Costa Rica was renamed San Isidro de El General. Saint Isidore the Laborer (c. 1070-1130), also known as Isidore the Farmer, is the Catholic Patron Saint of Farmers. Known for his kindness to the poor and animals, Isidore’s master discovered him praying while an angel was plowing for him. San Isidro de El General is an agricultural valley, as well as the he jumping-off point for trips to Chirripo National Park, which boats Costa Rica’s highest peak Cerro Chirripo (12,532 feet).
