Aspen, Colorado
In 1878, Aspen, Colorado was first founded as a silver mining camp and originally named Ute City, after the Ute Indians who populated the area. Ute City however, was renamed Aspen in 1880, for the large number of aspen trees in the area. Aspen trees are in the willow family and turn a warm golden hue in the autumn.
