San Martín de los Andes, Argentina
In 1817, Jose de San Martin crossed the Andes Mountains and discovered the city that bares his name, San Martín de los Andes. However, due to a water rights dispute with Chile, San Martín de los Andes was not officially designated to Argentina until 1902. During the 1970s, the Chapelco ski center and Sol de los Andes hotel were constructed and designed to emulate a European ski village. Today, San Martín de los Andes attracts tourists from around the world.
