Salta, Argentina
In 1582, Salta, Argentina was founded by Spanish explorer Hernando de Lerma, as a sojourn between Lima, Peru and Buenos Aires, Argentina. During the Argentine War of Independence (1810-1818), Salta became a pivotal tactical location and unfortunately emerged from the war financially bankrupt. However, in the late 19th century, Salta attracted an influx of new immigrants from Italy, Lebannon, Spain, Syria and other nations. These talented and resourceful new arrivals helped to revive the region and established Salta as a multicultural city.
