San Miguel de Ibarra, Ecuador
San Miguel de Ibarra, Ecuador, or simply known as Ibarra, was first founded in 1606 and later in 1872, due to the devastation by a major earthquake in the surrounding area. Ibarra is located at the base of the inactive Imbabura Volcano and is the capital of the Imbabura Province. Imbarbura, inactive for the last 14,000 years, is a prominent geographic feature of the province and is often personified as Taita Imbabura, or "Papa" Imbabura, as the protector of the entire Imbabura Province.
